Blogging Tip of the Day: Vol. 10

Today's Blogging Tip: A short memory is always your best asset when it comes to blogging. Not every blog you write is going to be stellar, and I have had my share of clunkers over the last decade. I never lose my enthusiasm to get out there and fail again. Every once in a while that next failure becomes a great success, but the fact of the matter is that I never crash and burn on the expectations of others. That would be too easy for me like anyone else who is their own worst critic.

Realistically blogging is MY hobby, and if anyone wants to come along for the ride they are welcome. Is that completely true? Well of course it isn't, but it is that exact attitude that keeps me going when it comes to writing. When I start expecting what happens everyday, good or bad then I am setting myself up for a let down. This was a bit of a theme today in all of my various updates, but don't EVER let anyone paint you into a "You always," corner. Once you allow someone to dictate to you what you "always" do, then you miss the point. They probably ignore everything else you do because they picked the one thing they hate about you, and painted you with it.

This is where the short memory comes in. A bad criticism (and by bad I mean unfair) should just roll off of you. It takes practice, but the last bad comment should not fuel your next bit of writing. YOU are what builds your audience and most of all your brand. When you get painted into the "you always" trap just remember that sometimes the person on the other end is really saying, "I never," and they will be out of your hair soon enough. Sometimes it's even best to be the UBER you in the next posting and find out for yourself.
