Blogging Tip of the Day: Vol. 17

Today's Tip: To list or not to list! What an interesting question. I don't happen to run any form of e-mail list, but I hear from everyone that it is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I don't exactly know how, coming from the other end of the scale. I like many of you have signed up for many e-mail lists of one sort or another. Newsletters, daily updates, freebies of some sort, but now I want you to really think about that. You're probably no different than me in that regard, you start off by looking at a few, you move on to ignoring them all, you proceed to blocking them or even reporting them as spam. Yeah that's my fear if I start collecting e-mail addresses, because it's a phony metric that will sooner or later be considered a joke.

I see these issues also happening on the social platforms that I use to promote my blogs. I have specific lists in each of my social media profiles designated to sort the people I care about (as in those that care about me too) those that are interesting (and rarely notice I exist, but do once in a while) and those that I ignore (because they babble like crazy and have never noticed I exist). There are those too who feel like being included on a friends list or a follow list is an open invitation to "force" me to read their stuff, front and center. I don't exactly know why they immediately go to the "shared with you" route, or push their crap through to my e-mail, but one thing I do know. I end up blocking their profile sooner or later. I wouldn't want this to happen to me, do you?
